What is heatstroke?
Heatstroke occurs when the body temperature becomes extremely hight(105-110). At this point heatstroke usually develops, and failure of vital organs, and consequently death, can occur.
Some of the most significant factors for heatstroke are:
- Heat
- Humidity
- Muscular activity
- Anxiety
- Poor Ventilation
- Dehydration
- Obesity
What should you do if your dog is suffering a Heatstroke?
- Take the dog’s temperature rectally. A temperature of 105 degrees or higher is probable indication of heatstroke
- Put your dog in a tub of cool running water or spray him with a hose. Be sure that the water is getting all the way down to the skin and not just running off of the coat.
- Thoroughly wet the belly and inside the legs.
- Run cool water over the tongue and mouth.
- Take a rectal temperature again if possible to know when to stop cooling. A safe temperature is about 103 degrees. Once the temperature gets to 103 or 104 degrees do not cool the pet any further because the cooling effects will continue to bring the temperature down ever further.
- SEEK VETERINARY HELP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. He will cool the dog down correctly monitoring his temperature and heart rate, and give intravenous fluids and anticoagulants. This may be the only thing that will save your dog’s life.
Prevention:
- Do not expose dogs with airway disease or impaired breathing to prolonged heat.
- Breed dogs in air-conditioned quarters.
- Crate a dog only in an open wire cage.
- Provide shade and cool water to dogs living in outdoor runs. If possible provide a fan.
- Know your own dog’s limits and honor them.
- Walk your dog in the morning or evening when it is cooler.
- NEVER leave your dog in a car (even with the windows partially rolled down) for any reason at any time. Leaving dogs in a car during warm weather is the most common cause of heatstroke.
One more thing to note-many veterinarians point out that it is not necessary to take our dogs with us to everything that we as humans like to do during the summer. A festival, for example, is fun for us, buy is usually stressful for our canine friends.

Doggy
Dreamin´
Martin R Smith Din
In Sleep,
a dog slips into a dream state not unlike a person´s.
Dogs tend to dream with more noticeable motions than we
do, probably because our lives (and thus our dreams) are
more dependent on speech while dogs use actions and body
language.
Many dogs will move their whiskers and lips, and make licking
and chewing motions when they dream. They may even paddle
their feet, almost as if they are running. Their eyelids
may also twitch, and you may also see their eyes moving
rapidly back and forth under their closed eyelids. Some
dogs do vocalize, making little yips or howls.
If you watch your dog closely, you can imagine from his
actions what he could be dreaming about.
